80-82 Differentials & Driveline

Your 80-82 Corvette came with an aluminum Dana 44 differential. We have been rebuilding these for several years, but we have only lately gotten around to putting them on the website. The problem has been cores, as we sell everything with no core required. We have now built up our inventory to the point where we believe we can sustain shipments without requiring cores.

 80-82 Differentials

All of our 80-82 Dana Corvette differentials are shipped with new ring and pinion gearsets, new stub axles and clutch packs. For heavy duty applications, we suggest a new Dana carrier, which comes fully assembled from the factory with new spider gears and clutch pack. As with our Eaton differentials, we offer REM coating on the gearsets as well as an option specific to racing applications.

Our Dana 44 differentials are shipped with a rear cover gasket. If you order a rear cover for your 80-82, it will be shipped in a separate box.

Of course we would like to have your old Dana differential core, and will pay you a lot for it if its rebuildable. Our shipping boxes are designed to survive a round trip, so you can use it if you choose to send your old diff back to us.

Note: UPS won't let us fill them with oil, so they are shipped with NO OIL. Remember, No Core Charge, and No Freight

We recommend REM treating the ring and pinion. REM treatment is a physicochemical process that utilizes high density, non abrasive ceramic media and vibratory finishing equipment. REM treatment removes microscopic surface imperfections that are inherent in any machining process. The resultant part looks as if it is chrome plated, but nothing is added to the part’s surface. The gears run cooler and last longer.

There is no core charge! If you want to send back your old differential in the fine box we send your new one in, this is the guide we will use to determine its value. When we get your core, we will disassemble, inspect and pay you for everything in there that is good enough to use in one of our differentials.

80-82 New Loaded Dana Posi Carrier
This is a factory new Dana Posi carrier. It is loaded, meaning it is set up by the factory with new spider gears and a new clutch pack. If you are building a differential for heavy duty applications, this is a good bet. When you realize how hard it is to install a clutch pack in your old Dana carrier, you will wish you had bought this!

New Dana Steel Clutch Pack
There are no conventional springs with a Dana Clutch Pack. The preload comes from a convex Bellview spring, which is included in this set. Installing this clutch pack and spring without the right tools is no picnic. Call us and we will talk you through it.

Dana Differential Overhaul Kit

Your Corvette came with a 3 series carrier. It may have come with 2.72 or 2.87 gears. Those gear sets are no longer available for the 80-82 Corvette. Differential Gear Lube
We offer the GM petroleum based gear lube that came in your Corvette. We also offer Mobil One 75-90 gear lube which reduces differential oil temperatures compared to the GM lube. The best oil we have ever tested is Royal Purple. It has a film strength second to none. We use it in our racecars. We refer to it as MPH oil, because it makes a difference in our top end speed.
