Duntov Motor Company

the Grand Sport Corvette

Duntov Motor Company was organized to re-create a legendary racecar. Our experience with this project dates back to 1965, when we ran the Sebring 12 hours of endurance with Corvette Grand Sport #003. The first replica of this famous racecar was our prototype Duntov LightWeight 001 which debuted at the HSR Sebring Historic races in March, 2005.

gm licenseAfter producing two more prototype LightWeights, in January 2009 GM awarded an exclusive licensing agreement to Duntov to continue production of the authentic 1963 Corvette ® Grand Sport, and to begin production of a street version to be offered as a roller. Duntov brought in Superformance, LLC for production of the street roller, and in February, 2009, Superformance was added to the GM/Duntov Licensing Agreement as the exclusive manufacturer and distributor of the street roller.

The Duntov LightWeight bodies were made in molds we built ourselves. After the GM Licensing Agreement, Duntov and Superformance acquired the original blueprints and body molds developed during the restoration of Grand Sport # 002, the most original of the original Grand Sports. It was the only one of the original five cars that was never wrecked.

The gallery below reflects our personal history with the Grand Sport, and includes notable historic photos contributed by others. The pics are organized by serial number, then chronologically. The last original pic is of our friend Delmo Johnson shooting a photographer the finger during Sebring 64 in Serial #004. The next pic is taken 41 years later with Delmo and Alan Sevadjian next to the first Duntov LightWeight. The galleryís post LightWeight section begins with our Duntov Grand Sport #006 at Indianapolis next to another one of Zora Duntovís iconic cars.
